Longfill

Longfill: easily prepare larger volumes of e-liquid

Longfills provide a convenient solution for vapers who want to prepare larger quantities of e-liquid without following the complete traditional DIY process with a separate flavour concentrate. A measured quantity of concentrated flavouring is supplied directly inside a larger bottle, leaving enough empty space for neutral base and, when required, nicotine.

Unlike ready-to-vape e-liquid, a Longfill should generally not be used directly in an electronic cigarette. The flavouring inside the bottle is intentionally concentrated and must be diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once the appropriate amount of base has been added, the mixture can be used after thorough mixing and, when required by the recipe, a suitable steeping period.

How does a Longfill e-liquid work?

The Longfill principle uses a bottle with a greater capacity than the amount of flavour concentrate it contains. A manufacturer may, for example, place 10, 20 or 30 ml of concentrate inside a substantially larger bottle. The remaining space is intended for neutral base and, depending on the desired strength, nicotine.

The exact quantity of base to add depends on the formulation and dilution instructions provided by the manufacturer. Longfills should therefore not automatically be filled to the top without checking these recommendations. Some are designed to produce 60 ml of finished e-liquid, while others may produce 100 ml or more.

What is the difference between Longfill, Shortfill and DIY concentrate?

A Longfill contains a measured quantity of concentrated flavouring inside the bottle intended for the final preparation and must be completed with base. A Shortfill, by contrast, already contains diluted nicotine-free e-liquid that can generally be vaped directly and is supplied with additional space for nicotine boosters.

A traditional DIY concentrate requires the user to measure the appropriate amount of flavouring before combining it with a PG/VG base. With a Longfill, this dosing stage is simplified because the manufacturer has already placed the intended quantity of concentrate inside the bottle.

How to prepare a Longfill correctly

Before preparing a Longfill, check the manufacturer's instructions to determine the intended final volume. Add the required quantity of neutral base directly to the bottle. If nicotine is required, its volume must be included in the calculation to avoid over-diluting or under-diluting the flavour concentrate.

Once all components have been added, close the bottle securely and shake thoroughly to homogenise the mixture. Depending on the flavour formulation, the e-liquid may be suitable for use relatively quickly or may benefit from a steeping period. Fruity profiles generally require less time than certain dessert, creamy or tobacco-inspired recipes.

Choosing a PG/VG base for your Longfill

The base allows the final composition to be adjusted according to the vaping equipment. A higher proportion of propylene glycol generally produces a more fluid e-liquid and promotes flavour delivery, while a higher vegetable glycerine content increases viscosity and vapour production.

A balanced base can work with many pods and tanks, whereas high-VG preparations generally require coils with sufficient liquid flow. The composition of the concentrate and any nicotine boosters must also be considered when calculating the final PG/VG ratio.

How to add nicotine to a Longfill

Nicotine can be incorporated while completing the Longfill using suitable nicotine boosters. The required quantity depends on the intended final volume, booster strength and desired nicotine concentration. Booster volume must always be included when calculating how much neutral base should be added.

For accurate results, calculate the entire mixture before beginning preparation. Adding several boosters can significantly affect the final volume, PG/VG ratio and flavour concentration, making it important to follow the manufacturer's dilution instructions.

Why choose the Longfill format?

The main advantage of a Longfill is simplicity. As the flavour concentrate is already measured inside the bottle, there is no need to measure it separately as with traditional DIY mixing. This reduces preparation steps while retaining flexibility over the choice of base and, within the formulation limits, nicotine strength.

Longfills are also convenient for vapers who regularly use the same flavour. A single preparation can produce a larger quantity of e-liquid, with fruity, fresh, dessert, drink, tobacco-inspired and more complex recipes available depending on the brand.
