Drip-Tip 510

510 Drip Tips: a widely used vape mouthpiece standard

The 510 drip tip is one of the most common mouthpiece formats used in electronic cigarettes. It is widely found on MTL clearomizers, rebuildable atomizers, compact RDL tanks and many smaller vaping devices.

Its narrower connection compared with an 810 drip tip makes it particularly suitable for moderate or restricted airflow. Shape, length and internal bore can also influence draw sensation and overall comfort.

510 drip tips for MTL and RDL vaping

The 510 format is strongly associated with MTL vaping. A narrow mouthpiece helps concentrate airflow and works well with restricted atomizers and moderate-power coils.

Some 510 drip tips use a wider internal bore and can also suit RDL vaping, providing a useful compromise between very narrow MTL tips and large 810 mouthpieces.

Actual draw characteristics therefore depend on internal bore, length and atomizer design rather than the 510 connection alone.

Internal bore and draw sensation

Two 510 drip tips can feel significantly different in use. A very narrow internal bore generally provides a more concentrated draw, while a wider opening allows increased airflow.

Length also influences the experience. Longer mouthpieces increase the distance between the lips and heating chamber, while shorter versions provide a more direct feel.

This makes it possible to fine-tune an atomizer without changing the coil or output settings.

Resin, Delrin, Ultem, metal and other materials

510 drip tips are available in many materials. Resin is popular for decorative patterns and colour variety, while Delrin and POM are widely used because they are lightweight and transfer relatively little heat.

Ultem is also common on rebuildable and High End atomizers, offering good heat resistance and a characteristic amber appearance. Metal mouthpieces, including stainless steel versions, provide a rigid and durable finish but generally transfer more heat.

Other options can include acrylic, glass, wood and composite materials.

How to check 510 drip tip compatibility

Before purchasing, make sure the clearomizer or atomizer genuinely uses a standard 510 mouthpiece connection. Some devices may look similar but use proprietary formats.

O-ring positioning should also be considered. Some 510 drip tips carry their own seals, while others rely on O-rings already installed inside the top cap.

Compatibility therefore depends on both connection diameter and mounting design.

Long, short, straight and curved 510 drip tips

Mouthpiece shape mainly affects comfort. A short straight tip provides a direct feel, while a longer version can be particularly comfortable on MTL atomizers producing warmer vapour.

Slightly curved or contoured mouthpieces may also feel more natural against the lips. Some models use a very narrow profile, while others flare slightly towards the top.

Selection is therefore largely personal once compatibility has been confirmed.

When should a 510 drip tip be replaced?

A drip tip can be used for a long time when properly maintained, but replacement is advisable if it becomes cracked, deformed, heavily worn or no longer fits securely.

A loose fit can also result from a worn O-ring rather than a damaged mouthpiece. Replacing the seal may sometimes solve the issue.

Users may also change drip tips simply to improve comfort, modify airflow sensation or customise appearance.

Cleaning and maintaining 510 drip tips

Because the mouthpiece comes into direct contact with the lips, regular cleaning is recommended. Condensation, e-liquid residue and dust can gradually accumulate inside.

Cleaning method should suit the material. Many drip tips can be rinsed and thoroughly dried, while natural or more delicate materials may require additional care.

Inspect seals during cleaning to ensure the mouthpiece remains securely fitted.
